Wayne, the Mayor

Wayne is the village head. He says it has been a long time since an explorer has been in the village. He says his invocation worked. When he was young Arcuz was the most peaceful village in the land. He says we lived very happily lives in the village. The ruler of the village is Lord Zack, Wayne acts as his deputy.

Welcome to Arcuz, young man! I'm Wayne, the mayor of this village. It has been a long time since an explorer has been here. It seems my invocation last night really worked! I'm so glad you're here. When I was young, Arcuz was the most peaceful village in the land. We lived very happy lives here. The ruler of our village is Lord Zack. He is a man with high aspirations, and the village has flourished thanks to him. I act as his deputy here. But a year ago Lord Zack secluded himself in his castle, saying he intended to do some kind of research. He hasn't come out since. Since then, ferocious monsters have appeared on the lands surrounding the village, attacking and killing people wildly. Many villagers have gone missing. A lot of us have left the village to escape this disaster. As the mayor of the village, I saw all this happen and I felt awful that I couldn't do anything to help. I wonder... would you be willing to stay here for a while and see if you can help us by finding some clues?

You would? Excellent! Thank you very much for deciding to help! Here's 100 gold. Please go and talk with Gran, the blacksmith. His shop is just southwest of here. Buy a weapon and equip it, then come back to see me.

Have you found the blacksmith Gran yet? His house is southwest of here. Once you've acquired the, you can click the INV button on the bottom of the screen, and drag your weapon from the grid to the proper slot on your body at the top of the INV panel.

[Quest Completed!] ... There are hordes of monsters right outside the village. You need to practice fighting them. Can you go outside the village and kill three slimes? Once you've done that, come back to see me, and I'll give you a reward.

Good. The village gate is to the south. To attack, press the J key. You can jump by pressing K key. You health status is shown at the red bar on the bottom left of the screen. When it gets low, you're in mortal danger... you should run away from the monsters as far as you can! After you've killed three slimes, please come back to see me.

Outside the village there are green and yellow slimes. Please go out from the south game, find them, kill three and come back to see me. Careful - the yellow ones may be too tough for you right now!

[Quest Completed!] ... Next, let's try a more difficult task. After fighting many monsters, you'll need to use potions to heal your wounds. Here's 100 gold for your next mission. Go to Susan - she's just west of here. Buy five small potions of healing, then go out and kill ten slimes and return. Will you do that?

Great! Susan is the village apothecary. Her house is just west of here. Before going into battle, drag potions from your inventory (INV) to the three shortcut grids on the bottom of the screen. That way, when you've gotten wounded, you can use a potions by just pressing the 1, 2, or 3 key. It's easy!

Did you killed ten Slimes yet? Remember to drag the potions from your inventory (INV) to the shortcut grids at the bottom of your screen before starting a fight. Then when you need to drink a potion, just press 1, 2, or 3 key.

[Quest Completed!] ... I also want to tell you about Attribute Points and Skill Points. Have you noticed that you can level up after fighting the slimes? Every time you level up you get five Attribute Points and one Skill Point to help you improve. When you have Attribute Points to spend, click the CHAR button on the bottom. Assign the attribute points to your character attributes by clicking the plus button next to each one. When you have Skill Points to spend, click the SKILL button and add the points to the fighting skills you want to learn or improve. After distributing your Ability and Skill points, remember to click the ACCEPT button at the bottom left of the panels. Are you ready to try it now?

We also have very rare stones - Blessing Stones, Soul Stones, and Holy Stones. By combining crystals and stones with your equipment, you can add magical enhancements that can improve your attack and defense skills, add magical damage to your weapons, and more. You can also combine potions to make larger and more powerful ones. Would you like to give it a try?

Oh, you want to know where crystals and stones come from? You'll find them sometimes when you've slain a monster. Well, I think by now have a pretty good idea about this land. Now, please, help us find out what has happened to our village!

Well, now that you know a bit about this village, I hope you'll start your investigation. Please walk around and talk with the villagers. When you see an exclamation point (!) over someone's head, they have a problem you can help them with. By helping them out, you may discover clues to the solution to our problems... Be careful when fighting the monsters. I'm sure some of them are even stronger than you!

Welcome back, young hero!

Despite your triumph over the two-headed giant, we remain in peril. We've been forced to barricade the front gate.

Beware the foul gasses rising from the dungeon entrance. The tainted air saps a man's strength to the point of death.

It seems that Arcuz holds many secrets. I am sorry to burden you with bad news after your great victory, but a new calamity has befallen our village...

Apparently, our ancestors chose this site to imprison Ssyba, The Devil of the Abyss who oppressed our world a century ago.

The dungeon entrance leads down to the chamber where Ssyba is sealed. Worse, there are signs that the evil Lord Zack has already entered.

Lord Zack is obsessed with the idea of freeing Ssyba in exchange for eternal life.

Are you prepared to deal with this threat?
